Showers and sunshine in Surrey

Even though it threatened rain, it didn’t come to much and the second BDOVELO ride of the year in the Surrey Hills yesterday was a great success. After a light lunch at Bramley Golf Club the social and sports groups both set off to explore the country lanes in this beautiful part of the country.

A number of tough climbs faced the riders, after which the ascent of Box Hill was almost a bit of a relief. Passing through lovely Surrey villages and countryside the rain kept threatening but never really materialised and the sun even made the occasional appearance. Even though flat roads seemed non-existent in this area the time flew by and before we knew it we were back at Bramley.

Over dinner,  Heather Fell, modern pentathlon Olympic silver medal winner and Ironman competitor, shared some of the successes and set-backs in her career. Then England and British Lions star, Peter Winterbottom, shared his thoughts on the current Lions tour of New Zealand, England’s chances at the next world cup and his thoughts on rugby in general.

A thoroughly enjoyable day and we are looking forward to the Bucks Ride next month.
