BDOVELO at the Shard

We were delighted to welcome over 50 guests to the spectacular offices of Mathys and Squire for our final event of the BDOVELO calendar.  Thank you to Paul Cozens and his team for hosting us so well.

William Fotheringham was first, sharing his thoughts on the glamorous life of the press pack when covering the grand tours, or not as it transpired. A fascinating Q&A session  gave the audience the chance to probe topics from from mechanical doping, to the finances of cycling, to whether Chris Froome can retain his TdeF title.  We only had time to explore a fraction of William’s vast cycling knowledge, and anyone left wanting more is advised to visit his website,, where his books  are available to purchase.
Bryan Steel then shared his own cycling journey, from wayward lad growing up in Beeston, Nottingham, to the podium at Atlanta and Athens, and now into the world of coaching.  Bryan explained how training during the  early years of Dave Brailsford’s marginal gains strategy  was to prove so successful over time for British Cycling.  If you are looking to improve your cycling do take a look at  to see how Bryan’s coaching programmes are developing the next generation of cyclists.
We look forward to seeing all those who joined us last night at next year’s BDOVELO rides or evening events.  Happy cycling.
